Pig Roast

This past weekend we traveled to Connecticut to enjoy a Pig Roast!  When Eli was a kid, his uncle would host an annual pig roast and Eli's family would venture east to spend time with his maternal side of the family and partake in the deliciously roasted meat.  After a hiatus, Eli's cousin re-started the tradition a couple years ago and this past weekend we flew out there to be a part of it.  It was a fabulous weekend and it was great to see Eli's extended family!

Uncle Jeff, the original Pig Roast host

Caleb was rather intrigued with the pig

Like any great Pig Roast, there were plenty of yard games!  Eli's cousins have the perfect yard for hosting such an event.  The weather was perfect too.  All in all, the whole thing couldn't have been better!

Caleb has inherited a love of yard games from both Eli and me :)

Aunt Lori and Emily duke it out in a game of Cornhole, a.k.a. Bean Bag Toss

Cornhole is a popular game in Chicago.  We played often while we lived there because some of our friends from med school were avid fans.  We love it too and it was fun to play at the Pig Roast, particularly with these stellar boards!  Eli's cousin, Jen, is a huge Harry Potter fan, and she and her husband made these boards from scratch.  Aren't they amazing???

It was also good to just sit and hang out with everyone.  We don't see these people often enough, and it was such a blessing to enjoy their company!

After playing games and eating amazing pork, it was dessert time.  I love dessert!  Jen ordered this cake for the occasion.  Isn't it gorgeous?  Even though we had to cut into a work of art, I can testify that it was delicious :)

Another highlight was Caleb's first time swimming!  He'd never been in a pool before so Eli took our son for his first swim in the back yard.  He played on the raft for a bit, and he liked it until he fell off and got dunked accidentally, which he did not like, so he cried and clung to Eli for quite awhile after that but eventually recovered and had a lot of fun playing with his cousin Ally in the pool.

After playing so hard all afternoon in the sun, and then being snuggled so close to Dad in the pool, Caleb eventually fell asleep in Eli's arms while they were still in the pool.  It was adorable :)  So we took him out and put on his jammies.  I took him to snuggle with Grandma Horn, but then he caught a second wind of energy and decided to play DJ instead.  What kid wouldn't like lights and streamers and buttons and cords and all sorts of things to find trouble with?

It was such a great weekend!  We only wish we could've had more time to hang out.  But we're so thankful Eli could get the time off, and we're so thankful that Eli has such a fun family!
