Croquet

Who doesn't love a spontaneous game of croquet?  You get to whack a ball across the lawn on a beautiful summer day and there's no pressure whatsoever to be any good at the game.  It's perfect!

We've played a couple times this summer at the park behind our house and, as it turns out, Caleb is a croquet fan.  What little boy wouldn't love balls and mallets and wickets?  He likes to "help" by picking up the balls and moving them across the lawn, plucking the wickets out of the ground, and taking our mallets off our hands :)

Mallets!

bringing a mallet to Daddy

he kept hitting them together like drum sticks

I love Eli's stance :)

he wanted to wear the wicket like a necklace

On a different note, Caleb loves the helicopter that flies by our house every day.  We live four blocks from the hospital and the helicopter comes and goes regularly, bringing in patients who couldn't get there any other way, or sometimes transferring patients to hospitals down in the Twin Cities.  Since we live so close to the hospital, we see the helicopter a lot, and Caleb loves to watch it.  Every time he hears it he stops whatever he's doing to look in the sky.  When he finally spots it, he points and babbles as if to tell me all about it.  Today, it flew overhead as we were playing croquet and Caleb pointed a mallet toward the sky, enamored with the flying machine yet again :)
