Happy Valentine's Day!

There was supposed to be a Valentine's picnic/party for all the MKs today, but it was cancelled.  A nasty stomach virus has been circulating for two weeks and, in an effort to keep it from spreading even further, it was decided to keep all the kids away from each other.  One of the downsides of living in community is the regular bouts of sicknesses that get passed around, especially when there are so many kids who are experts at sharing germs!

In lieu of the party, I promised the boys we could make Valentine cookies instead.  The only cookie cutters we have are safari animals, but I cut out a few hearts and make pink and purple frosting, so it was sort of Valentine-ish.  They loved rolling out the dough (and eating the dough!) and were willing to frost a couple before getting tired of it and leaving the rest to me.  All in all, it was a success and we were able to share a plateful with our neighbors.

And I made sure they wore red shirts, because there's really no other way to commemorate this holiday over here.

Then, since we hadn't stepped foot outside the house all day, and because I was not in the mood to make any real food for supper, we had a Valentine picnic of our own in the yard.  What says Happy Valentine's Day more than popcorn and apples and cheese?  It was the best I could do.  But these boys were pretty happy :)

And right after we finished, Eli came home.  The boys had made Valentine's cards for him and were very excited to show them off.  Such a simple celebration, but still a reminder of love!

Happy Valentine's Day!
